After submitting a deposit to another kite instructor and driving 1200 miles from Chicago to St Pete, the other instructor backed out of the lesson the night before... an almost devastating blow to my Son & I who prepped for 3 1/2 months to spend THAT week learning to kitesurf! The next morning, as the winds were blowing perfectly for a beginner lesson, armed with a BlackBerry Storm & in an hour's time, I had found & spoke to 3 other local kiteboarding instructors. I felt the best after an intelligent conversation with Steve. Without hesitation, he met my Son & I on the beach an hour & a half later!! Steve not only gave us a very comprehensive kite lesson that day, but he saved our trip! On another whim, as the winds picked up the very next evening, he met us at another beach for part 2. Then 1 more supervised session on our last day in FL! As the winds died for a few hours & everyone else left the beach 1 by 1, my Son & I stuck it out in anticipation of the wind Gods gracing us 1 last time before sundown. Steve left us to our own devices, but not without strong, professional advice as he himself left for the day. Then, the next morning as we were almost to the Georgia border, he very considerately followed up with a phone call to see how our 1st unmonitored session went!
This guy not only has a passion for kitesurfing, but for teaching kitesurfing. One of the most important things you can learn as a budding kitesurfer is safety and Steve covers it all. He really seems to love his job, which is important for anyone to do their job well... and he really does his job well. Oh and, if you're looking for an instructor who will be fair with his pricing, you've found your man! Steve puts the priority on content taught rather than the minutes of his time you've used up... which reinforces to me, this guy is compassionate & really likes what he does.

I'd just like to say thanks to you Steve for a fantastic day of kiteboarding out at the East Beach. Great, clear instruction and really useful feedback at a superb, confidence-inspiring location. Considering the fact that I have not been out on the water for some 7 months, you had me up and running in a very short space of time. Steve is the bomb! If you are looking for the man to give you kiteboarding lessons, show you the local spots to ride or just give tips on gear etc., then Steve is your guy! You're not gonna find a nicer dude who knows kiting like this guy. Not only is he a great instructor but he gives back to the local kiting community and the community in general.
